Pak-Up Hostel

Budget: shoestring

Area: Krabi

You will never want to pack up once you’ve been to Pak-Up (okay, we stole that from the company’s website, but it’s true!). One of the best party hostels on the island, Pak-Up Hostel is close to all of Krabi’s famous attractions but clean and safe enough to make you feel at home. This property used to be a school but now it’s the hottest hostel in the area, with more amenities than you would expect and a design that really impresses. Also, a big plus for a Thailand budget hostel: Pak-Up has air conditioning units that really don’t fail. Put Pak-Up Hostel on your Thailand bucket list today. Rooms start around A$12 per night.

Much-Che Manta Boutique Hotel

Budget: small

Area: Udon Thani

If you are willing to spend a little more, you can look forward to amenities. From the outdoor plunge pool to the decadent patio area to the traditional Thai body massage parlour, Much-Che Manta Boutique Hotel offers pretty wonderful services, with a pretty wonderful price tag to match. This hotel may be a little out of the way, but it’s close enough to be a viable option for travellers who don’t want to pay cab fare. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the Udon Thani Railway Station and a 20-minute drive from the Udon Thani shopping area and the international airport. Rooms start around A$39 per night.

Rocky’s Boutique Resort

Budget: moderate

Area: Lamai Beach

If sun and sand are on your mind, add a little glamour when you stay at Rocky’s Boutique Resort. With two pools and a spa, you may never want to leave the premises – but if you do, there are mountain bike rentals and free kayaks available in the lobby. Of course, the most important part of this resort is its proximity to Thailand’s blissful beaches. Rocky’s provides a free shuttle service to Lamai Beach (or you can walk – it’s that close). If you stay at Rocky’s, you are also a 15-minute drive from Chaweng Beach and 11 km from Samui International Airport. Rooms start around A$210 per night.
