With hundreds of pristine tropical islands spotting the coast of Thailand’s coastline, choosing your ideal escape can be daunting (although we suppose there are worse problems to have). Follow our guide to visit the best island for your desires – or don’t, and visit them all – the choice is yours.

Ko Samui

One of the country’s most established tourist islands, Ko Samui is known for five star resorts and high-end spas. Pampering reaches a whole new level on Ko Samui, meaning you may struggle to leave your resort’s lavish infinity pool. But if you do, you will find charming beach bungalows and stunning views.

This island also has a roaring nightlife scene, perfect for young partygoers and classy soirees alike. Visit the commercial main street to see island locals, as well as more normal establishments like bars, fast-food joints and tour operators.

Ko Samui also allows for day trips to Ang Thong Marine National Park. Go snorkelling in the untouched lagoons and hike on the breathtaking limestone cliffs. You may also rent a scooter on the island (with the right travel insurance) and view the island at your own pace.

Ko Tao

Athletes flock to Ko Tao for its world-class diving instruction and renowned hiking trails. Shallow, warm waters surround this island and abundant marine life is perfect for first time snorkelers and scuba divers as well as experienced swimmers.

If you are more of a land-lover, Ko Tao also offers a hilly terrain and beautiful views if you decide to take a hike. Spend an afternoon on the island’s golden beaches or doing yoga near the shore. No matter what activity you are looking to experience, Ko Tao will deliver.

Ko Pha-Ngan

If you are looking to fill your social calendar, Ko Pha-Ngan is the place for you. This veritable party island is almost a little too intense. Experience the Hat Rin monthly full moon party – widely considered to be a rite of passage for backpackers in Southeast Asia.

Maybe you just want to relax after a night on the town? It’s no surprise that Ko Pha-Ngan offers a spot for that as well. Secluded coves covered by jungle trails are euphoric and scenic. Take a hike around the island to see some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world and enjoy the quieter side of island life.

Of course, there are dozens more islands to choose from. These three are the most popular among tourists, though. No matter where you choose to travel, purchase travel insurance from Cover-More.
