St. Petersburg captured my attention right from the moment I watched Anastasia as a little girl. Despite brimming with glitz and glamour, the former Russian capital has not always been like a scene from a Disney movie.
When I told people I was going to Estonia, I was met with blank stares and comments like, ‘where is that?’ and ‘what do you see there?’ Estonia is part of the Baltics which include Latvia and Lithuania and sits next to Russia. Estonia faces the Baltic Sea and is only a short two hour ferry ride from Finland.
If you’re looking for a unique place off the beaten path in the UK, then consider visiting the Isle of Skye. The Isle of Skye is part of the Inner Hebrides chain of islands off Scotland’s west coast and is only a couple of kilometres from the Scottish mainland. This beautiful part of the world is full of breathtaking landscapes perfect for hiking or simply a road trip.
I’ve been living in Paris now for four years and while I wouldn’t exactly call myself a ‘Parisienne’, I definitely call Paris home. When I first arrived, I was all about snapping selfies at Ladurée on the Champs Élysées, asking other tourists for photos as I posed with wine and cheese under the Eiffel Tower and even put on a love lock on the Pont des Arts. Yes, I was a walking cliché.
Portugal is gaining in popularity though it still seems to be left off a lot of people’s European itineraries in favour of Spain. But if you’re after a city with interesting attractions, cheap food and accommodation, and good nightlife then head to Lisbon.
The central European country of Poland is up there as one of my favourite places to travel. Central Europe draws me back again and again with its friendly people, beautiful and intriguing old towns and hearty food. Budapest, Prague and Krakow (to name just a few) are vibrant cities and will always hold a special place in my heart.
The idea of hiking on a glacier and seeing the Northern Lights dancing in the sky lured me to brave the cold of an Icelandic winter, it was worth it.
There’s a lot to see outside Iceland’s capital city Reykjavik and it can be difficult to choose which direction to head – there are amazing landscapes and fun activities all over the country.
Living in Melbourne, food markets to me are a dime a dozen. Well… that was until I recently met London’s Borough Market on a two-week Euro holiday. I was smitten! I’m a little bit embarrassed that a few fresh juice cups, sizzling vats of chorizo-filled paella and the sight of a gazillion strawberry punnets made me so deliriously love-struck.
The gold, the gardens, the grandeur! France’s Palace of Versailles is ridiculously ridiculous. Yet it’s totally worth battling the crowds and making the 30-minute train ride from Paris, as it’s a four-course feast for the eyeballs.
