For music fans, there are few events in New Zealand more exciting than Rhythm and Vines. This annual festival takes place in Gisborne, on the Waiohika Estate, a breathtaking setting that provides the perfect venue for a weekend of partying, music and camping in the lead up to the New Year.
Rhythm and Vines was dreamt up by a group of friends in 2003. They decided they wanted to have a big party, and one of the group, Andrew Witters, offered up his family's vineyard as the venue.
That was the first year of the event, and the party drew an impressive 1,800 viewers, who came to see The Black Seeds as well as a band headlined by one of the group of friends.
Now, the event has grown to include huge names from the music world, and it brings together a crowd of music fans 30,000 strong.
What's happening during this year's Rhythm and Vines festival? The party begins on December 29 and lasts through the weekend.
Visitors will get to check out artists like Rudimental, Wiz Khalifa, Empire of the Sun and Shapeshifter. These are just some of the many big names coming to this year's event.
There's more than just music and Rhythm and Vines. On New Year's Day, for example, you can lounge on a blanket and catch an outdoor movie.
If you don't want to spend the entire time partying, you can check out the relaxation area known as Chill Zone. With relaxing music, comfy furnishings and even yoga classes happening right on site, this is the best place to go when you need a bit of a break from the wild side of Rhythm and Vines.
