The Hidden Gem of the Grand Canyon: Horseshoe Bend

Jess Valentine

After it being near the top of our USA bucket list for years, we finally got to experience how grand the Grand Canyon really is. After our visit many people asked us, “Which rim of the Grand Canyon is best?”

So, you're headed to the East Coast of the United States for your holiday. Maybe Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and Washington, D.C. are on your travel itinerary. How should you pack for these cities and this part of the country? Where you end up on the coast will inform what you'll do and what you'll need to pack, but there are a few essentials to bring along with you (or purchase once in the US) to make sure you don't stand out as a tourist and are prepared for everything the East Coast has to offer travellers.

New York City or the "Big Apple" is one of the coolest cities I've travelled to and is the mecca of fashion and big brands. To see New York City properly, you need at least two weeks and even then, you'll find you need more time as you discover little pockets of culture and funky places to hang out.

Over the last few years there has been a noticeable increase in medical expenses incurred by Australians travelling overseas.  Australia has a limited amount of 'Reciprocal Health Agreements' in place which allow for minimised costs for Australian Citizens by providing full cover for medical expenses incurred at the public hospital and practitioner level in countries such as the United Kingdom and New Zealand.  However, in many popular travel destinations these agreements do not exist.  This means that Australians who are injured or become ill in these countries can face expensive medical bills. These bills become even more expensive in countries such as the United States of America which has no public health care system and charge non residents at higher rates.

Jody Elliott

Today is the first of a new blog series for Cover-More Australia. The blog posts document the adventures, experiences and impressions that Jody Elliot, our Cover-More Case Manager, had during her first season as a Case Manager on the ground in Bali. Our decision to create the role of medical case manager and brand ambassador in Bali was important to our bottom line: Australians love Bali, and Bali loves us, but Bali also has a higher rate of injury and sickness than other travel destinations in the world. By creating this role we are able to put a friendly and familiar face in the midst of a foreign island whose primary concern is and always will be you, should the need arise. Now, here’s Jody with the first blog post about arriving in Bali.

There's something to be said for leaving your electronics behind when you travel, as they can get a bit distracting when you're trying to enjoy your holiday. Look into the audience at any event or landmark and you see a sea of cell phones instead of faces. However, if you know what apps to download, your tech gadgets can become your best (and most portable!) travel companions.

Australians love a day at the races, but horses aren't the only things that can deliver a thrill of excitement on the racetrack. The V8 Supercars races are a growing sport in Australia, and with 15 separate events happening in the country this year, there's plenty of opportunity to get in on the fun.
