The Australian traveller at the centre of the Australian Government’s campaign urging Australians to take out travel insurance before they travel overseas is a Cover-More customer.

Erin Langworthy received extensive medical care at the direction of Cover-More’s expert emergency medical assistance team following her accident in Zambia last year when the cord she bungee-jumped from snapped.

When the local medical centre Erin was taken to for treatment was not equipped to treat her injuries, Cover-More’s emergency medical assistance team arranged for an immediate air ambulance evacuation to a hospital where Erin would receive the most appropriate care.

Cover-More also arranged for Erin’s mother to be flown from Australia to be by her side during her treatment and recovery.

Cover-More’s emergency medical assistance team directed the care that led to Erin’s recovery and totalled more than $50,000 in medical expenses.

Erin said the only reason she took out travel insurance before she embarked on her trip was because her mother and her Flight Centre travel agent convinced her to.

Erin said: “Cover-More took the stress and the worry, and all that pressure off me and also my mother. We didn’t have to worry about any of it. They cared for me, and I knew that they were there for me from start to finish.”

Erin’s mother, Jane Langworthy, said it was not so much about the money, it was knowing that someone who knew what to do, who knew what medical treatment Erin needed and who knew about medical evacuation and hospitals in Africa was going to look after Erin.

“I wouldn’t have known where to start,” Jane said.

Cover-More recently launched a campaign, ‘Ask your agent’, which urges customers to talk to their travel agent about travel insurance before leaving for their holiday.

Cover-More Marketing and Strategy Manager Zac Brookes said: "Our campaign directs consumers to talk to their travel agent about their travel plans, including travel insurance, as agents have the expertise to enhance travellers' experiences, and ensure Australians travel with the protection of the right travel insurance."

Cover-More’s ‘Ask your agent’ campaign encourages Australians to visit their dedicated website www.askyouragent.com.au where people can access a searchable register to find their closest travel agent, compelling reasons why consumers should purchase travel insurance from travel agents and important information on why not all travel insurance is the same.

Zac Brookes said: "Erin Langworthy's remarkable story of survival which resulted from Erin being able to access the highest level of available medical care and expert emergency assistance demonstrates that not all travel insurance is the same.

"Travel agents should play pivitol role in the holidays of all Australians, so we are reminding travellers that when they use a travel agent they are engaging an expert to help them with not only their holiday planning but also their well being," he said.

Cover-More’s ‘Ask your agent’ campaign will run into 2013.
