Australia’s leading provider of travel insurance and emergency assistance, Cover-More, has appointed Professor Steve Rashford MBBS, FACEM to the position of Chief Medical Officer.
Australia's leading provider of travel insurance and emergency assistance, Cover-More, has appointed Professor Steve Rashford MBBS, FACEM to the position of Chief Medical Officer.
Professor Rashford will be responsible for Cover-More’s delivery of emergency medical assistance in Australia, New Zealand, China (under the brand, Assistance Online) and Malaysia. His appointment further establishes Cover-More as the leading provider of emergency assistance in Asia Pacific.
Professor Rashford is one of Australia’s leading emergency medicine specialists, with more than 20 years experience in aero-medical retrieval, medical assistance and pre-hospital care.
On Professor Rashford’s appointment, Cover-More Group Chief Executive Officer Peter Edwards said: “Professor Rashford’s appointment is a significant one for Cover-More, as he is one of the country’s most esteemed emergency medicine specialists.
“Anyone who has worked with Professor Rashford will know he is an inspirational man, highly qualified with extensive experience. He is an expert at dealing with life and death situations on a daily basis, so he is the perfect fit to lead our experienced medical team.”
Professor Rashford will lead Cover-More’s team of expert medical consultants who deliver the group’s emergency medical assistance services, and will be on call for critical care cases. His appointment extends Cover-More’s medical and health assistance capabilities throughout Asia Pacific.
Cover-More provides assistance services to approximately two million Australians and New Zealanders every year.
Professor Rashford has been the Medical Director of Queensland Ambulance since 2005. For the past seven years, he also worked as the Medical Director of a large global medical assistance provider. He also holds honorary appointments with the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital’s Department of Emergency Medicine and their Trauma Service. In addition, he holds Adjunct Professorial positions at a number of universities in Queensland.

Professor Rashford’s appointment is effective immediately.
