The other week we posted an article to give you some quick tips for travel photography. Today’s article gives you another tip in travel photography – observe before you shoot.

James Maher from Digital Photography School posted an article about street photography and the importance of observing the area before you start shooting.

Based on this article here are some of the tips Maher noted:

  • Watch things happen and let moments develop in front of your eyes
  • The camera is just a tool to capture what your eyes see
  • Avoid shooting reactively, hold back, slow yourself down and scan the area until you finally see something
  • Observe your surroundings with your eyes and picture the photograph mentally before you capture it

If you’re planning your trip overseas, check your travel insurance policy has cover for cameras and video cameras.
