Australians love a day at the races, but horses aren't the only things that can deliver a thrill of excitement on the racetrack. The V8 Supercars races are a growing sport in Australia, and with 15 separate events happening in the country this year, there's plenty of opportunity to get in on the fun.

The Sydney 500

The Sydney 500 is seen as the grand finale of the 2013 V8 season, so it should come as no surprise that two of the favourite V8 cars are going head to head. Ford and Holden have been rivals for a long time, so fans will be eager to see which of these models comes out ahead.

Jamie Whincup and Mark Winterbottom are the two drivers who will be facing off behind the wheel as they race through Sydney's street circuits.

Special events

On Saturday, December 7, aim to be at Olympic Park for a first-ever event - you'll get to see some of the fastest cars in Australia race around the track at twilight.

There's plenty for youngsters to enjoy at this event as well, thanks to the Disney-Pixar Funzone. There, kids will be able to get up close and personal with some of the characters from beloved movies, such as Cars and Finding Nemo.
