What you get with our international single trip travel insurance

Sitting on a beach in Sicily? Then you probably won’t need cover for skiing in Switzerland. Whatever your itinerary, we’ve got travel insurance plans and cover options to suit your trip plans.

We also cover what we say we will. So, whichever single trips travel insurance plan you end up choosing – Basic, Comprehensive or Comprehensive+ – make sure it’s got the cover you need. Because if it’s not covered by your policy, we won’t be able to pay the bill.

You should also read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). We know it’s not exactly fun holiday reading material, but it’s the source of truth when it comes to our cover’s limits, exclusions, and conditions.

Good to know: If you travel a lot (lucky duck!), you could save time and money with a multi-trip policy. We sell international annual multi-trip policies, so if you’re looking for an excuse to travel more in the next 12 months, maybe this is your sign to do just that.

Whether you’re taking a quick trip to another city or going on an epic Aussie adventure across multiple state borders, domestic travel insurance can help when your plans don’t go to, erm, plan.

We’ve got three domestic plans for you to choose from for your one-off trip: Basic, Comprehensive, and Comprehensive+. We also cover what we say we will. So, before you hit ‘buy’ on your single trip travel insurance for your Australian holiday, take a beat and look at the table below. Because if it’s not covered by your policy, we won’t be able to pay the bill.

You should also read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). We know it’s not exactly entertaining pre-holiday reading, but it’s the source of truth when it comes to our single trip travel insurance cover’s limits, exclusions, and conditions.

Good to know: If you travel within Australia a lot (envious? Us?!), you could save time and money with a multi-trip policy. We sell domestic annual multi-trip policies, so if you’re looking for an excuse to travel more in our own backyard in the next 12 months, maybe this is your sign to do just that.

Uncover more about our travel insurance for single trips

Our two cents? Pack a spare pair of undies on long-haul flights. Be brave enough to try at least one ‘out there’ local cuisine. And get to know our cover before you buy.

Firstly, the ‘single’ in single trip travel insurance has got nothing to do with relationship status.

Secondly, it also has nothing to do with ‘one-way’ trips. Travel insurance for single trips is cover for one trip where you leave your humble abode and return to it once your getaway is over.

Thirdly, this type of cover doesn’t mean you can only go to one ‘single’ country. Not at all. You can visit multiple destinations while travelling with a single trip policy – you just need to let us know where you’re planning to go when you get a quote.

Why is this kind of cover great? It gives you the power to tailor your cover to your exact holiday plans. (Read: laying on the beach, exploring the Artic Circle, or anything in between.) It’s also a great option if you don’t know when or where you’ll be travelling next. (If you do, check out our annual multi-trip cover. It might make your life easier.)

We’ve got single trip travel insurance plans for Australian and overseas holidays, and all our plans offer you the good stuff. (Think: cover for unexpected expenses, optional cancellation cover, and 24/7 access to our emergency assistance team.)

You can get a quote online now to see how much a single trip travel insurance policy costs for your travel plans, plus compare our three plans: Basic, Comprehensive, and Comprehensive+.

Read the big print: Want cover but you’re already travelling? If you buy our domestic or international cover after you’ve left home, you’ll have to wait patiently while our three-day ‘no cover’ period passes before cover applies. If you’re buying inbound cover, you must buy it before you’ve left home – we can’t provide cover if you’re already on your way Down Under.

Almost any trip that your heart desires, really! As long as you’re travelling for less than 12 months, our one-off trip cover could work for your holiday. You plan the itinerary, and we should be able to cover it.

So, if you know you want to head to America to explore the Everglades in Florida or enjoy a European summer while it’s cold and wet in Australia, our travel insurance for single trips is an easy way to protect your one-off trip.

Only you know how much cover you’ll need. We can give you all the cover and all the care in the world, but you’ll need to decide how much cover is right for you and your single trip.

But! Here’s how we can help. When working out how much and what cover you need, always remember there’s more to it than just your destination and trip dates. You’ll want to think about things like what activities you’ll be taking part in, whether you’ll be travelling with expensive camera equipment or if you’re concerned you might need to cancel your trip altogether. We can provide cover for all those things (terms and conditions do apply, obviously), but you’ll need to tell us if you need them.

To choose the right single trip travel insurance for you, get a quote, compare our three plans, check out our extra cover options to see if they apply to your itinerary, read the PDS so you know what you are and aren’t covered for, and then ta-da! You’ll know what is good for your trip.

Don't say we didn't tell you: If you’re going on a sea or ocean cruise for two or more nights, skiing or snowboarding, riding a moped or motorcycle, or planning on trying an activity that is not one of the 80 we automatically include, you’ll need to add our extra cover option(s) to your policy to get cover.

How long is a piece of string? We’re joking. Kind of. The cost of a single trip travel insurance policy depends on so many different things, like the trip length, the destination(s), the number of people on the policy and their ages, and more.

We’ve actually written a whole article about it, so if you’re interested, take a snoop at this: 12 factors that can influence the cost of our travel insurance.

If you’re looking for cheap single trip travel insurance or how much a one-off policy costs, the best thing to do is get a quote online now. It’s simple and fast, we promise.

Buying cover for a one-off trip is just like buying any other type of travel insurance policy. Oh, and it’s rather simple – you can do it online in mere minutes.

See that big ‘Get quote’ button? Tap it, fill in your trip details and keep following the prompts until there are no more.

      We’ll ask you things like:

      • Where are you going?
      • When are you going?
      • Do you want to include any other travellers on this policy?
      • How old are you?
      • Are you going on a cruise? Or on a snow trip? Or being super adventurous? Or riding a motorbike?
      • Do you have any existing medical conditions?

…and more, so we can serve up the best cover options for you.

Once you’re happy with your cover, you can buy it safely online.

      Single trip travel insurance FAQs

Still curious about our cover? Let’s unpack your questions.

Travel is for the young – and the young at heart. At Cover-More, we want everyone who wants to travel to be able to do just that – travel. So, if you’re 99 or under, you can get a quote online to see what cover we can offer you.

100+ and still travelling? Good on you! Give us a call on 1300 72 88 22 and we’ll see what we can do. (We might also ask whether you got your birthday letter from the King… Forgive us – we’re a curious bunch.)

We never want to stifle anyone’s travel dreams, so you’ll be happy to know we can provide cover for single trips up to 12 months’ long. Whether it’s a gap year, sabbatical, or just a long bucket list you really need to tick off, if you’re away for less than a year, you can get Cover-More cover and worry a whole lot less.

We can, but only if you’re not staying longer than 12 months. If you’ve staying at your destination longer than 12 months (for example, you have a two-year working holiday visa for the UK), after the 12-month period of cover is up, you’ll need to see what options are available to you depending on where you are. Or, if you are planning this kind of long holiday now, give us a call and we can chat through any options we’ve got available.

You certainly can! Whether you’re planning to pop to Portugal after you’ve taken a spin around Spain or you want to visit Vietnam after cruisin’ around Cambodia, we aren’t going to stop you. (We actively encourage it, actually.)

If you’re visiting two or more countries on the one holiday, all you need to do is enter the name of each country or the region (e.g. All of Asia or All of Europe) you plan on visiting into the destination field when getting a quote to include them in your cover. Easy, eh?

Annual multi-trip travel insurance is a policy that covers you for as many trips as you want to take in a 12-month period up to the max trip length you choose. Single trip travel insurance only covers you for one trip.

If you’re a frequent traveller or have a bunch of holiday plans (lucky you!), an annual multi-trip policy may save you time and money in the long run because you can sort out a full year of cover for multiple trips in one go. Get a quote now to see if it’s cheaper than the cost of single trip travel insurance cover for a couple of trips.

If you only have one trip planned – or don’t know when or where you’ll be travelling next – single trip travel insurance could be best for you. You can get cover that’s perfect for the trip you’re planning now, without having to call on a crystal ball to understand what your next few trips will entail.

This means you can truly tailor your cover to your trip (like, adding our Snow Sports Cover to your policy because you’re heading to New Zealand for a week of fun on the slopes), or save money if you’re travelling to an expensive destination (think: the United States because of its costly health care) because you’re only getting cover for two weeks – not a whole year.

You’ll know what’s best for you based on your holiday plans. And if you don’t? Get a few quotes to see which option is the best value (and has the best cover) for you.

Fun-ish fact: We call annual multi-trip cover ‘AMT’ cover here at Cover-More. Nothing like a good acronym to save time, eh?

Of course! We take your health rather seriously, which is why we have Overseas Medical Expenses cover included in our international policies (whether you’re travelling on a single, annual, or inbound policy), plus up to $2,000 in Overseas Emergency Dental Expenses.

So, if you suffer a disabling injury, sickness, or disease while you’re overseas, we may be able to help with the cost of medical treatment, ambulance transportation, and emergency repatriation or evacuation.

Read the big print: Make sure you look at the PDS to get all the details on our medical cover, including any conditions or exclusions that may apply like:

      • Our unlimited medical cover won’t exceed 12 months from onset of the illness, condition, or injury
      • If you need to be evacuated or repatriation to Australia, you’ll need to contact us so we can approve the cost and make all arrangements to get you home via our excellent emergency assistance network
      • We don’t offer medical cover on our domestic plans, but there’s no need to worry – Medicare and/or your private health insurer in Australia can help you when you’re travelling domestically.

Travelling to Australia on our inbound policy? You get a double dose of medical cover. Our inbound cover includes the same overseas cover as our international plans, plus $1,000,000 for medical expenses in Australia.

You certainly can – but you’ll need to add the level of cover that suits you best to your policy for cover to apply.

We don’t automatically include a specific level of cover for cancellation in our plans, but there’s a good reason for this. Every trip and budget is different, so we let you choose the amount of Amendment or Cancellations Costs cover that best suits you and your trip. All the power to you, we say! You can add this cover to any of our travel insurance plans – Basic, Comprehensive, and Comprehensive+ – so the choice really is yours.

Why include our Amendment or Cancellations Costs cover in your single trip travel insurance? Imagine something happens that either delays your trip or stops you from being able to go on it altogether; without cover, you could lose all the money you paid in advance for non-refundable hotels, flights, tours, and more. With cover, you’re less likely to feel the financial pinch because we can reimburse you for covered costs. Phew!

Oh, and one more thing: If you want even more flexibility when it comes to deciding to cancel your trip, you can include our Cancellation Plus Cover in your policy. It gives you extra flexibility and includes cover for reasons such as change of mind, job situation, unexpected expenses, and more. Check out the PDS for all the details and all the additional terms and conditions that apply.

We include cover for your luggage and travel documents on all but one of our plans – our domestic Basic plan.

The amount of luggage cover you get depends on which plan you choose:

      • International Comprehensive+: cover up to $25,000
      • International Comprehensive: cover up to $15,000
      • International Basic: cover up to $5,000
      • Domestic Comprehensive+: cover up to $15,000
      • Domestic Comprehensive: cover up to $5,000
      • Domestic Basic: no cover
      • Inbound: cover up to $15,000.

Don't say we didn't tell you: There are cover limits and sub-limits for certain items, such as phones, watches, and jewellery, which change depending on which plan you choose. Depreciation is also applied to most items over 24 months old, so take a look at the PDS to uncover more about our cover.

A smarter traveller is a safer traveller, so we always recommend checking out our travel alerts page before you book a holiday and buy travel insurance. This can help you make sure your destination is safe to visit right now (and if any exclusions may apply to your cover).
