Before we visited Clam Lake, Wisconsin, we had been told about the annual ice fishing contest, a Saturday in January when everyone in the town (37 residents) and a few people from neighbouring towns all head out onto the lake, drop a line and have a good time. The ice fishing contest also acts as a fundraiser for the local ATV club with prizes, raffles, a bar and BBQ – like a county fair on ice.
Lima is a bustling city of almost 10 million people - just under half the population of Australia – unfortunately, for most travellers, Lima is seen as merely a stopover or somewhere to catch up on missed sleep. But after spending two weeks in the Peruvian capital, I’m here to tell you it’s a beautiful place that provokes, inspires and amazes.

I’m lying in a hammock suspended between two trees, with a mosquito net above me to keep myself being consumed by insects. My entire lower body aches from climbing, hiking and, admittedly, falling through ten kilometres of dense jungle and caves throughout the day.
